Cross-country skiing around Samoens and the Grand Massif

Cross-country skiing around Samoens and the Grand Massif

There is a network of pistes dedicated to cross-country skiers in and around Samoens and the whole area is popular with many French cross-country skiers.

When conditions allow there are a range of blue / red graded runs in the valley bottom itself that are pisted on a daily basis. These are well-marked routes and suitable to protagonists of both Classic and Skating skiing styles, running from Samoens to Morrillon and further up the valley to Sixt-fer-a-cheval.

The area around Sixt provides an excellent destination itself for XC skiing, with more remote areas still being accessible on well-groomed pistes. This skiing is suitable to both beginners and Intermediate level skiers.

Higher-level XC skiing is also available up at the Col de Joux Plane when valley bottom conditions are unsuitable. Here there are several Intermediate and more Advanced routes that run to local viewpoints, all with the added benefit of starting & finishing at the nearby mountain restaurant. A minibus service provides transport to the town & back for a nominal sum of €1 each way.
