Mountain biking in summer

Mountain biking holidays in the French Alps

From this summer onwards the new chair-lift system out of Samoens is now open to mountain bikers and this means that bikers have access to a whole new world of trails, climbs and hair-raising descents.

So good is the new area that Samoens now forms part of the European wide Maxi-Avalanche series. From a height of 2140m down to the resort of 700m that means it’s the full 1400m descent of Ben Nevis in one go…get those big front discs fitted and watch them burn.

But it’s not just Downhillers that will appreciate the new lift system; it opens up a truly impressive trail of XC routes away from the beaten track. Higher up the valley towards Sixt XC bikers can travel for several hours on mountain trails without seeing other cyclists. It’s a world away from some of the more heavily populated biking areas that can get a tad over-crowded.

In total there are 7 local lifts for bikers operating from Samoens and Morillon, as well as lots more in the connected biking centres of Les Carroz and Flaine.

Take a closer look at the full mountain biking area.

If you wanted to combine biking around Samoens with biking in the Portes-du-Soleil this is easily done as Les Gets is just a 25min drive away, and then bikers have some excellent single and double-track alternatives to bring you right back to the door of the chalet.

Chalet Falcon is well equipped for all bikers with secure inside bike storage, wash-hose facilities and of course a wide-range of route-advice from keen biker Chris.

We'd like your feedback and your views on the mountain biking around Samoens, so feel free to add your comments for all others to see.
